Work is the Curse

written by Karl and Gail Hourigan

Work is the curse of the drinking classes, we'd rather dance and raise our glasses
but we can't afford this recreation, without a full time occupation

so we work and we work and we work and we work and we work and we work all day
and when the evening comes around we head on out to play
and we play and we play and we play and we play 'til the morning comes around
and I guess I'll carry on this way 'til they lay me in the ground

I've got a boss he's very kind he lets me work all day
he lets me work the overtime, but not for extra pay
and if I need a little break it's only just because
you know I'm trying to stay awake and need a little buzz

I know a fool he hit it big, he won the lottery
he bought a lot of big toys to impress his family
and suddenly he had some friends he'd never had before
so now he's heading back to work to earn a little more

I try to break the habits that I know are bad for me
but all my friends are sinners they enjoy my company
and when we get together we just let the good times roll
'cause what else can you do when the boss man owns your soul?

So we drink and we smoke and we joke and we toke and we take a taxi home
we wind up in our bed, beside a garden gnome
and when we've had some coffee we can face another day
of working like a madman and then heading off to play
